Central heating means heating from a central source
Even the Romans had central heating which was in the form of large ducts under the floor. Heat from a fire was channelled through these ducts warming the floor.
Modern central heating systems use water as a source to transfer heat from the boiler to distribute heat to the required areas. The correct term for a boiler is a heat generator. This is because the water is not boiled (like a wetback) but is generally adjusted to between 60 to 80 degrees depending on the system design.
There no such thing as a standard central heating system. We can design a system to suit your needs, and, if working correctly, it should look after itself with regards to turning itself on and off automatically.
A well designed system should use no more fuel than is necessary for your needs and always have your home at the desired temperature. It can also provide all the hot water you need when you need it.
A centrally heated house will normally be cheaper to run than any other form of heating. For instance with independent gas fires, even just one fire can be more expensive to run than a well designed central heating system with good quality controls.
